15A Figuring Out Buywe Behavior No.
Evaluating How Your Customers Evaluate Stuff
Interviewees :
16 year old boy who recently started driving and living in Tampa, Florida
21 year old senior from University of Florida
17 year old freshman from the University of Florida
Summary of Interviews:
I started off asking each individual what matter the most out of the price, quality, and style of the window wipers. The 16 year old boy stated that the style would probably matter the most because that is what individuals would be looking at. He stated that his parents would probably be ones to purchase the product; therefore, price does not matter. The two college students definitely stated that the price would matter then most then followed by the quality of the item. Each individual did say that they would probably want to buy it at the store so that they can physically analyze the product before purchasing. The college students stated that if the product was less than 100 dollars they would pay in cash, but if it were more, they would probably finance it over a couple of months. Again, the teenager did not have a preference and it would be dependent on his parents. Overall, they believed that if the product actually worked to keep them safe when driving in the rain and is durable, it would be deemed a good product.
Conclusion:
After my interviews, I would definitely want to narrow down my segment to only college students. I feel that they would probably benefit more from this product than teenagers. It seemed that the college students would put more thought in the alternative evaluation process before purchasing the product. In terms of the teenager's alternative evaluation, it seemed that they were only considered with style of the product; therefore, I concluded that most teenagers would do the same. Also, I feel that I would benefit more from college students post-purchase evaluation critiques because they are taking a lot of things into consideration before purchasing the product such as price, quality, and financing.

Hi Jess,
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good decision to narrow down your segment to college students. I know personally that I put much less consideration into my purchasing alternatives when I was in high school than I do now in college. With that in mind, I think older demographics would also make use of your product, as they tend to consider things like price and quality when making purchasing decisions.
Man I wish I had that college students money, saying if it was under $100 they would pay cash for wiper blades. I'm a cheap skate and I make decent money. Haha. But it's good to have a more narrow range of customers to advertise too. Makes it a little easier to focus on. One of my previous classes required us to run a virtual business and narrowing down your markets like that helped tremendously.
