Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
12A - Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Pick a segment:
The segment I want to focus on are teenagers including new drivers and college students. Studies show that teenagers are more likely to get into car accidents than adults; moreover, since this product is meant to increase the safety of drivers, I believe that targeting this group first would be perfect. It would hopefully lower the number of accidents.
Interviews:
It is evident that this need becomes more salient when it is storming outside while people are driving. I decided to interview a teenager from Tampa who just started driving. During the interview, she stated that this business concept would be beneficial. As a new driver, she finds it difficult switching in and out of lanes when it rains because she can not see outside a window. This product would definitely combat that. She stated that after being aware of this issue, she would probably talk to her parents about ways to combat this issue since they are experienced drivers. I also interviewed two college students that had the same point of view. They think that the windshield wipers for the windows would be distracting and pointless. Distracting because of the up and down motion of the wipers on all four sides. Pointless because the windshield wipers in the front and back do a perfect job already. Lastly, they believe that it would make the car unattractive and clustered.
Conclusion:
It was interesting to see that the teenager actually thought that it would be a good idea to install this product in her car. To be honest, I was prepared to hear that this idea was a bit absurd because it is very out of the box. The last two interviews allowed me to understand that this product could actually be more distracting than not having it. Some individuals might focus too much on the up and down motion of the window shield. It was good to get this perspective from these two individuals because it will be a way for me to find solutions to compact it.

Hi Jess,
ReplyDeleteI think that your target market of teenagers and college students might be good as a secondary market. I do agree that it is important to target these individuals but I think that it would be better to target those individuals parents. Personally, I don't think I would go out and buy this product for myself, whereas a parent out of concern for their child's safety would most certainly buy it.
Hi Jess,
ReplyDeleteI find this product to be such a great safety feature. Centering it towards teenagers was a great business decision as you were right in saying the statistics of teenage drivers to adult drivers is drastically higher for accidents in teenagers. Manty college students in Florida get stuck in the rain on long drives to and from school and their hometowns so this product would be so great for them. I’m glad your learned something from your interviews and hopefully you can use the information to better your product!
