Makers : The New Industrial Revolution
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
- The rapid growth of technology specifically in digital world over the past few decades. Society love the idea of screens and making these have gone digitals. Companies and even consumers no longer have to be dependent or pay manufacturing companies for services. Anyone can basically use the advancement of the digital world as an advantage to express this business ideas.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
- For me personally, I find that the growth of the digital revolution allows me to think of the great opportunities that are presented to me as an entrepreneur. For instance, I no longer have to spend tons of money to produce things but rather utilized this new "industrial revolution" to my advantage. It just reminds me that entrepreneurs should always be seeking to find ways to minimize costs while maximizing their profit, demand, and etc. This is a prime example of something that one can use to their advantage.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
- I would probably have the class share different ways they think they have contributed to the growth of the digital revolution as well as how they can use it in their venture concept.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
- This was my first time hearing about Makers (shared production facility spaces) ; therefore, it was definitely an "aha" moment for me. It was surprising to see how Makers have even be implemented in schools (over 1000 schools), government, and even in different countries. Makers movement seems to make sharing ideas between individuals easier while creating a system of production innovators. .This is something that I find very useful In the world of entrepreneurship since it is all about networking, new business ideas, and etc.
